Hiking Dog Lake in the Wasatch Mountains

I wouldn’t say it’s a “must hike” in Utah but during fall…it’s a must hike for SURE.

I can’t say I’ve done a ton of hiking in the fall because, well, the truth is, I don’t know if I’ve ever done a hike in the fall before – I’ve always been in school! But woah, the colors are beautiful, and the trail to Dog Lake is a beautiful one! I always wish I took more pictures on hikes and I think this is one of those times where I was actually happy with the amount of pictures I took.

My friend Abby and I did this hike a bit later in the day, and since we were in the mountains, the light was pretty even throughout the duration of the hike, allowing for some really beautifully lit pictures. So get ready for some fall colors and minimal words. I want these photos to speak for themselves. 🙂

It seriously was an amazing hike. The air was pretty brisk on this early October day but patches of sunlight shown through the trees, casting warm spots here and there. The leaves were in their early stages of changing color; most were still green, but turning to yellow, allowing for a splendid array of greens and yellows.

Like seriously, are you kidding me with these colors? So pretty!!

I’ve never done hikes in the fall before – usually I’m always in school – and I’ve never done anything quite like this before. Usually the hiking season has ended for me, but Abby showed me that it doesn’t end – at least not yet!

Finally, we reached Dog Lake, and even though the water was low, according to Abby, it was still quite beautiful. It’s tucked away in the mountains, a several mile hike but easy enough to do in an afternoon. The trees surrounding the lake were turning yellow, creating a lovely contrast with the evergreen trees.

Such a pretty hike. I would 100% do it again and recommend it to anyone who comes to Salt Lake City! I mean, if you aren’t convinced enough by these pictures…I don’t know what to tell ya!

I’ll see you in the next one!
