Well, this was a pretty darn cool track, I must say! Southern Utah is full of surprises and this one caught me entirely off guard! I don’t remember ever seeing dinosaur tracks preserved in the ground as well maintained as this one is! I drove down into Buckhorn Draw Recreation Area and Campground through a large canyon and stopped along the side of the road for this quick and easy walk. It’s about 600-800 feet of walking in total!

This area is located right off the road about a mile or so after this sign. There is plenty of parking spots available across the road from the track. There’s a pretty helpful sign to help you locate your parking spot and, well, it should be pretty easy to find it! Once you park, cross the road and follow the trail to the left to walk up a small “switchback” style trail for two, whole, whopping switchbacks! And then BANG! You’re here!

The dinosaur track is located in this little rock formation on the left side of the above photo. It’s pretty darn cool, honestly! There’s only one track; one little footprint! It was honestly bigger than I was thinking it would be and I also thought there would be a few more, but nope! This was just a one-off track. Still pretty darn cool and worth a picture to say you’ve seen it!

The views from the top of the small bluff also make you feel pretty insignificant. You’re locked into the canyon unless you scale the canyon walls or just drive out a couple miles. I could see how desolate this would be for the earlier travelers to Utah. Imagine getting stuck in a slot canyon with no water!

That’s all for this blog! A short one, I know. I’ve got a few more like this coming up so hopefully it’ll be worth your while! I have a few more hikes from this region as well, so stay tuned for those! In the meantime, check out my blog on the Goodwater Canyon Rim Trail and my short photo journal from San Rafael!
I’ll see ya on the next one!
